[Fanfic] [RivaMika Week 2 Day 3] Revenge, Perhaps?

Day 3: Force majeure
Title: Revenge, Perhaps?
Author: Vianna Orchidia / Annasthacy Chashyme
Rating: T
Warning: misstypos, grammar errors, OOC, and the absurdness I can't get away without.

She never knew about the monster inside her.

The fury that spiraled inside her body, the carnal growl that quietly left her mouth, and the air that suddenly seemed too thin in that room—even she was surprised. The knife—small, decorated with intricate curves, hand-made by the very person who gave it to her—was inside her trembling hands. The curving almost pained her palms. She couldn't think clearly.

Her eyes were set to the men trying to break into a small house, in the downtown. The darkness of late night didn't bother her in the slightest. In her head she could only see fragments of nightmare way back during her childhood, and the red, red that spilled around long black hair, and Eren.

She wanted nothing more than stabbing those men, spilling more red, staining her hands with more blood.

Revenge, perhaps. Sympathy, probably. Whatever.

She was ready to pounce on those men when a strong hand gripped her forearm firmly. The ravenette flinched hard, almost dropping the knife in the process. She didn't realize her hands were trembling so much until her captor easily snatched the offending weapon with a tch audible.

What are you doing, Ackerman?” the too-familiar voice of Captain Levi whispered harshly. “You weren't with the others so I came looking, and this is what I found?” Strange, she thought briefly, because she thought she heard disappointment rather than anger in his words. He should have been angry. He should have hit her or something, just any reason for her to hit him back and retrieve the knife and finish her bussiness.

Her disoriented eyes didn't go unnoticed, because Levi quickly scanned the surrounding for possible cause, and narrowed his eyes when he saw the three men looming around a particular house. The captain unconcsiously held his breath as he watched them finally managed opening the door. Mikasa's arm tensed under his grip, and he snapped back his attention to her.

"So you want to play hero now, Ackerman?"

"I don't--Captain, let me--"

"No." She glared. "The way you are now, you'll just kill them brutally."

"So what?"

His stare hardened. "We don't kill humans. We kill titans."

She opened her mouth, but a weak cry from the house diverted her attention. If she didn't act now, the family would be in danger. Without thinking she yanked her arm free and ran past Levi, not even minding her weapon-less state. She heard a curse shouted as the captain himself dashed after her, and almost smiled knowing that he was going to help.

They were fast as lightning. The criminals didn't even have time to raise an arm when Mikasa whip-kicked one on the head, then a kick right to another's crotch. Beside her, Levi also decapacitated the last one by kneeing his gut. When the three were lying on ground, mostly unconcsious, Levi turned to the mother-daughter pair huddled together in fear. With a tone that could be considered gentle he asked, "you two okay?"

"Y-yes," the mother managed to stutter.

"Do you have ropes? We need to tie them up."

"W-we have some... In the corner..." Levi swiftly rummaged through things at the place pointed by the poor woman. When he found the ropes, he motioned Mikasa to help him. Reluctantly she complied, with burning hatred still apparent in her eyes.

After making sure the men were tied properly and the ropes wouldn't come off easily, he threw them carelessly to the streets. Withouth so much of a goodbye to the resident of the house he then pulled Mikasa by the wrist. He could tell she was glaring at the men and had to tug strongly to make her move.

"Why didn't you kill them?" she asked quietly as they walked back to where the whole squad stayed the night.

"I'm way past that," he said bitterly. As an afterthought, he abruptly stopped and shoved the knife he'd been holding onto her palms. "And I gave that knife to you for self-protection, not some cold-blooded killing attempt. Remember it well, Mikasa."

Once again she found herself clutching at the knife--this time with no longer trembling hands, and the curvings didn't hurt as much.

A/N: a day gap when I'm already soooo behind deadline (not like I submit this to the official RivaMika Week tumblr though). And I'm not gomen. Haha. I don't think I portrayed the prompt so well, and it's just so rushed I want to strangle myself, but this is the best I could do right now. Let's see if I can do better in the next prompts.
Note to self: I need to work out making endings orz
